Delaney Bramlett, of Delaney and Bonnie passed away last Saturday.  He was 69.

Delaney and Bonnie and Friends was an excellent band in the early 70's.  Among their friends George Harrison at who's suggestion Eric Clapton took them on the road with Blind Faith.

this from the AP story Dec 29, 2008:

"Born in Mississippi, Bramlett enjoyed a career in the music business that spanned 50 years.
With his then-wife Bonnie Lynn, he created the Southern blues-rock band Delaney & Bonnie
& Friends. The group opened for Blind Faith, which featured British guitarist Clapton, in 1969."

And from Eric Clapton's autobiography

"For me, going on [with Blind Faith] after Delaney and Bonnie was really, really tough,
because I thought they were miles better than us."[11]

I was lucky enough to see a Delaney and Bonnie show when i was in college.  It was at the Boston Tea Party and featured Eric Clapton.  This is an audience  recording  made at the Fillmore East with the same lineup  I saw at the tea party.   At some point in the tour this group was joined by George Harrison.  Wish I had a recording of that.
